Bloggers today are using a new tactic called Link Baiting. Link Baiting is just like link building but it comes with a twist – instead of hunting out links, you are bringing the links to you through unique and popular site content.
It’s like fishing. You publish a new page discussing a certain topic and let it loose on the web. Then, others can pick it up and links to it. So your article is the bait while the link is the catch. A unique and properly created page cab easily capture huge links on its own without requiring any effort from you.
With link baiting there are five types of pages or “hooks” that encourage links. These are News, Contrary, Attack, Resource and Humor.
A News Hook is where you can report on industry news. The report must be unique and something that no one else has caught or paid attention to. It can just be a summary of various viewpoints on a certain issue.
Contrary Hooks are posts wherein you contradict or go against what someone else says. This someone should be prominent in the industry and the issue you should be commenting on must be controversial. To generate more buzz, you can provide evidence to back up your arguments.
Attack Hooks are like contrary hooks but on a higher level. These are pages that personally attack people or debunk theories to the next level.
A Resource Hook is more on giving information and explaining it in your own words for your visitors.
Lastly, the Humor hook wherein you post jokes, funny stories or pictures in your pages and this will capture the attention of your visitors and hopefully make them link your page.
So if you are depending on link building to become an authority in the web, consider link baiting in your options. It can be a very effective way to get and build links effectively plus it can boost your reputation and brand online as well since people get to know more about you and your business through these links.
