This was a big week for Twitter as a press conference aired that detailed all of the new improvements on their way in an effort to create a better Twitter. The founders of the popular social feed network outlined what they have been able to do as their community continues to grow and that a new interface is on its way for Twitter.com that will start to appear to users over the course of the next few weeks.
However, for the moment only one percent of the lucky Twitter users are able to get to the new interface so the vast majority of Twitter fans will just have to wait.
In the meantime, there are some reviews back on the web about the new interface which will have to suffice until it makes its way onto all users browsing pages. To start with, the new Twitter interface is focused on creating a better user experience by adding new search capabilities, multi-media expansions, and a much more fluid browsing experience. Here are just a few of the improvements that are well worth a mention, and for that matter waiting for as well.
First off, the new interface will redirect those who use Twitter back to their website. At first this may not seem like such a big deal, but consider the fact that most users utilize Twitter via a second party app such as mobile phones and it makes a large difference. Thus, the new announcement is the social networking first real attempt to direct users to have a better experience while on site. With a more expansive interface users will now have a much richer experience than just a simple news feed which should be quite interesting to view online.
Of course, the question is what all Twitter is going to do with the free space. The obvious answer to this is that they will start to market goods and place advertisements on their website much like Facebook and Myspace have done. There are many open space units on the interface that those with the Beta trial version can see and it seems that the units placed strategically along the side and under the different sections are clearly meant for ads. Of course, given the blank spots are just that, blank, they may go a different direction that only time will tell.
Third, the focus has been placed on searching and other tweets instead of what you actually tweeted which is practical given the fact that you likely care little about what you have tweeted. After all, most people go on Twitter to catch up with the gossip, and now with the easy search queue you can find the top tweets for any topic as well as your friends’ tweets fill the page. In a way it is like the Facebook newsfeed that greets you on log in instead of your own profile page, but the main difference is that you can search Twitter for any topic in the Tweets.
Finally, the most exciting update on Twitter that is coming may be the fact that you can view videos and pictures in stream from the left to the right making it much easier to view any multimedia item on Twitter. Plus, outside of viewing the multimedia item, you can see every person that was mentioned as part of the tweet and their responses or current tweet thus unwrapping every story behind any media tweet which leaves for a much more comprehensive experience with any media item.
