As December wraps up pretty soon most people will be welcoming in the New Year which is true of those working in the SEO industry as well. As SEO continues to grow both as a career and a field in general you can expect to see a lot of changes and some consistencies in the year 2010. Here are just a few of the things you can expect to see in the coming year.
Twitter link power :-
With Twitter continuing to gain ground, it can be expected that in the near future Twitter’s link features will start to heavily influence page rank. Google has long spent time always trying to keep up with the current trends for content recommendations, so it is only reasonable that Twitter data will start to carry some weight as well. While this does not mean that you should end every Twit with your link, it does mean that you will have to learn how to use Twitter if you have been stubbornly holding out from the fashionable social media outlet.
Personalized search:-
While real time searches may not hold much value in the future, personalized search looks like its going to be here for awhile. The good news for SEOs is that the ability for people to run personalized searches will not change the way they currently operate, however it does make you take a few things into account. For instance, startup companies are going to have a rougher time breaking in the top of the rankings list, but this is not entirely a new problem so there are still ways to beat the personalized search although most deal with time and commitment.
Google will cease to dominant:-
For a long time now most SEOs have gotten use to the fact that it is a Google world, but figures show that Bing and Yahoo are steadily gaining ground which means in the future SEOs will have to learn two sets of ranking criteria instead of just one if they want to see top results. It may take the entire year of 2010 for this to become a reality, but it does certainly look possible.
